Simone Biles is taking her show on the road
Superstar gymnast Simone Biles is hoping to put on the greatest show on earth after what is likely to be a history-making turn at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The four-time Olympic champion and the most decorated gymnast ever at the World Championships, has been reluctant when asked about what she plans to do after her second Olympic Games. But, Wednesday, one thing became clear: she’ll be taking her show on the road. Biles announced that she will be headlining a national tour in the United States following her second Olympic appearance.
The tour is set to visit 35 cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and, of course, Biles’ hometown of Houston.
In Tokyo, Biles will likely be the Games’ biggest star. She’s favoured to repeat her Rio performance of four gold medals, with a fifth, which would match her performance at October’s World Gymnastics Championships in Stuttgart, a real possibility.
That star status has given her opportunities – much like her gravity defying moves on the field of play – without limit.
“When we found out I was coming back, we kind of sat down and talked about things I would want to do,” Biles told The Associated Press. “They said it could be as small as starting a perfume line or maybe as big as a tour. I was like, ‘Actually, that would be pretty sweet. That would be the coolest thing ever.’”
What motivates Simone Biles and how would she like to be remembered?
What motivates Simone Biles and how would she like to be remembered? No matter how many records she has broken Simone Biles is determined to keep pushing herself to greater heights. And in addition to her great sporting achievements, the four-time Olympic gold medallist also wants to leave a legacy off the mat.
Biles reunites with Katelyn Ohashi
The tour will also provide something of a reunion as former UCLA gymnast and viral video star Katelyn Ohashi joins the all-female cast. Ohashi is one of only two gymnasts to have beaten Biles in the all-around as a senior. That victory came at the American Cup in March of 2013. Shortly after, Ohashi’s dreams of joining Biles fell away as injuries kept her out of full-time training.
The duo remained close, however, dubbing themselves ‘double trouble’ on their social media handles, and Ohashi got her star turn when her Michael Jackson-themed floor routine went viral with millions of views in January 2019.
“She made her mark,” Biles said. “She put college gymnastics and gymnastics … back on the map. She has impacted a lot of female gymnasts and I think this really brings us full circle.”

Biles has certainly made her mark, as well. She told the AP that her tour hopes to be like nothing before seen, something she’s quite familiar with, having added four elements to the gymnastics rule book over her career.
“We want this to be completely different,” Biles said. “There will be dancing. Hopefully trampoline. Something people have never seen before."
