Bopanna survives quarter-final tie-breaker at ATP 500 Rotterdam
Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna and Canadian partner Denis Shapovalov won their quarter-final match at the ATP 500 World Tennis Tournament at Rotterdam on Thursday.
The opening set was a straightforward win for Rohan Bopanna and Denis Shapovalov, who broke their opponents as early as the third game itself.
With this early two-point lead bolstering their confidence, Bopanna-Shapovalov forced yet another break on Rojer-Tecau’s service four games later and subsequently sealed up the set 6-2.
Not all plain sailing for Rohan Bopanna
However, the tables turned on Rohan Bopanna and Denis Shapovalov in the next set, as they lost serve in the fourth game.
They returned the favour three games later but Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau broke their opponents’ serve yet again in the very next game. The ball now in their court, the Dutch-Romanian held serve to win the set 6-3.
With the match level, an exciting race to ten points followed in the third set.
Rohan Bopanna and Denis Shapovalov prevailed, breaking their opponents three times to win the decider 10-7.
Ankita Raina soldiers on in Thailand Open
After having her singles campaign prematurely curtailed in the round-of-32 stage, India's Ankita Raina has been making a steady inroads on the doubles side with her Dutch partner Rosalie Van Der Hoek.
In her quarter-final match earlier on Thursday, Ankita Raina and Rosalie Van Der Hoek beat the Chinese pairing of Zheng Saisai and Xun Fangying 7-6 (7-5) in the first set and 6-4 in the second.
The Indo-Dutch duo will take on yet another Chinese pairing next as they face Shuai Peng and Yafan Wang in the semi-final.
