Eva de Goede and Manpreet Singh named FIH players of the year 2019
Two-time Olympic champion de Goede won the award for the Netherlands’ success in the inaugural FIH Pro League in 2019, where she captained the Oranje to victory. It continued an impressive run of form for the Dutch, who built on their 2018 World Cup triumph.
In the vote, which comprised of national associations (50 per cent), media (25 per cent), and fans and players (25 per cent), de Goode won with a 33.5 per cent share. Carla Rebecchi of Argentina was not too far behind with 28.8 per cent, while Germany’s Janne Muller-Wieland’s 11.7 per cent share of the vote earned her third place.
Singh was announced as the FIH Player of the Year for men, the first time an Indian international has won the award since its inception in 1999.
The Indian national team captain was influential in his nation’s successful navigation of November’s Olympic qualifiers over Russia, as well as leading them to success at the FIH Men’s Series Finals in June.
Singh won the award with a 35.2 per cent share of the complete vote, while Arthur van Doren of Belgium was second with 19.7 per cent and Argentina’s Lucas Vila received 11.7 per cent of the vote to achieve third place.
