Buenos Aires 2018 YOG set new mark for digitally-consumed content
The recent Buenos Aires 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games set a new benchmark for digital consumption, according to a final analysis presented to the International Olympic Committee Executive Board.
Viewership of the Games digitially on the Olympic Channel, YouTube, and social media platforms reached 188 million video views, 94 times that of the Nanjing 2014 Games.
Digital platforms related to the Games, including BuenosAires2018.com, Olympic.org, and OlympicChannel.com, attracted 6 million unique viewers and 58 million page views.
Live streaming proved popular
For the first time, the Olympic Channel was the worldwide digital rights-holder for a Games. This meant there was global coverage of the YOG available, and it attracted significant interest on both the Olympic Channel's website as well as its iOS and Android mobile applications.
Host country Argentina provided the most viewership, while users from a total of 234 countries and territories visited the Olympic Channel during the YOG.
Nearly 70 per cent of all video views came from the platform's live streaming — the Olympic Channel provided a 24/7 Youth Olympic Games Channel, daily highlights, and live and on-demand streaming for 149 events.
The Olympic Channel also produced a daily live show, #YOGdaily, from the GameChangers Hub in the Athletes' Village for the duration of the Games, which was broadcast on social media.
